Challenge: Any AI solution to any issue of any marginalised group
Pilot: Access to Healthcare Chatbot (A2HC Chatbot)
The Access to Healthcare chatbot is a chatbot that provides information on access and rights to healthcare for undocumented migrants. The idea came from the community of undocumented migrants themselves. The organisation Right to Create, that works with undocumented people, worked on this idea together with the Vrije Universiteit and applied for Amsterdam’s wildcard challenge in the third open call of CommuniCity.
As the target group is undocumented migrants, both in the co-creation process and in the design of the chatbot, privacy was very important. No personal data was gathered in the process and the chatbot does not gather personal data either. As it is a chatbot, people may enter personal data, but the chatbot has filters for this, and the chat conversation is not stored.
Another ethical aspect is that the people who took part in the co-creation process were offered dinner, refreshments and transportation support. Also, special care was given to create a welcoming environment in the co-creation sessions. The co-creation exercises were intended to treat participants as equal partners and information sources. To strengthen their sense of ownership, they came up with the name for the chatbot.
The solution is open source and available for other organisations to adapt to their needs.
